Night on the Town

I finally took the opportunity to go in downtown Hanoi. I have been to a place or two for dinner after work but that is all.

Weekends

On Friday nights in downtown Hanoi they close off many of the streets. They call them “walking streets”. Even the taxis know how to drop people off at “walking street”. The streets are around a nice lake that has a temple out in the middle of the lake.

Having Fun

The people here in Vietnam really like to enjoy their selves. Most work very hard so when they get together they like to have fun. Everyone is happy and smiling; even those who are working the booths. There are many booths and vendors selling pretty much everything. There are vendors selling food, toys, clothes, shoes, more food, toys.

There was live music from singers on a big stage. Street vendors were playing music from speakers and the bars had their music cranked up too. It was fun and vibrant.

What is that!

Can you identify this?

This was part of my dinner. In a formal life it was pigeon. It was really good. The person I was with heard about this place by word of mouth. And it was a good thing he did. You would never find it on your own. You enter a small opening between two stores and this is what you see.

It was liking into a bomb shelter or something. After one of the turns you walk through a bend in the hallway and that is the kitchen. The food was amazing.

There are so many places like this to explore. I look forward to getting to know more about the city and seeing the sights and eating the food.

Here are some more pictures for your enjoyment.

How many of you did the homework last week?

Enjoy!

Doug

  1. The restaurant location reminds me of looking for Rose’s in Dallas. You have to know someone! 😊

    1. I will never find it again. It is like a speak easy. You for sure have to have someone take you the first time. Maybe the first few times.
